Never Use Fiverr for Logo Design—10 Reasons Why
Say it with us: “I will never use Fiverr for logo design”. Bargain shopping can be thrilling. Who doesn’t want to save money? While we are all about saving a few bucks on a new rug or pair of jeans, cheaping out on your new business logo is a no-no.
You may think you’re getting an awesome deal on Fiverr ($5 for a logo instead of $5000 for a full, professional brand kit? Score!), but the reality is you get what you pay for. When it comes to your brand, that $5 logo may end up costing you thousands in profit. And it could even be the difference between your business succeeding or failing in today’s competitive market.
As a digital marketing agency, we’ve heard far too many horror stories when it comes to Fiverr. Save yourself time, money, and aggravation, and NEVER use Fiverr for branding!
What is Fiverr?
Fiverr is a website that offers design and freelance services starting at just $5 per project. Many see it as a great opportunity for freelancers to make some extra money. And as a great way to offer design services to those who normally couldn’t afford it.
For those new to the world of logos and design, that may sound like a great way to get your business up and running for less. But is it?
Ten Reasons You Should Avoid Fiverr Like The Plague
1. You get what you pay for
“If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.”
I love monkeys, but I don’t want them designing my logo. In this case monkey = unprofessional, unreliable designer who is using clip art and Canva to make a generic logo that looks cheap. While cost factors into the equation for most of us, the end result is what counts when it comes to your logo. If you don’t want monkeys, don’t pay peanuts! You should never use Fiverr for logo design.
2. Good branding is everything.
Your logo and brand kit are the most important investments you’ll make when starting your business. A logo is your business’s identity. It’s the first impression people get when they see your product or service, and it speaks volumes.
Is it professional? Is it original? Does it make sense? These are all important things to consider since your logo is everywhere. A good logo stands the test of time. It speaks to your brand. It embodies your messaging. It’s a one-time investment that you definitely shouldn’t skimp on.
You want customers to connect with your brand, remember it, and ultimately make a purchase. That’s why you should never use Fiverr logo design. You can cut corners elsewhere to stick to your budget, but your branding MATTERS.
3. Anyone can offer their services
In our experience, designers on Fiverr tend to be:
Inexperienced – Anyone can sign up to offer their services, no design skills required!
Unprofessional – They don’t deliver what they say they will.
Unreliable – Don’t meet deadlines, delay projects, deliver incorrect formats.
Uncommunicative – Not willing to work with you. Some disappear for days at a time!
Unoriginal – Use stock photos or generic art unrelated to your message. You also run the risk of liability if they plagiarize the design.
Unaccountable – No recourse if things don’t go well.
4. A good logo takes time
Creating a logo that represents your brand takes time, effort, and thought. Freelancers on Fiverr don’t have time for that! The cost is more when you’re working with a professional, but it’s worth it for thought that goes into your design. Unlike Fiverr designers, professionals spend time understanding your brand and messaging. Instead of pumping out tons of low-quality artwork, they focus on customizing it for you until it is perfect. Just one more reason why you should never use Fiverr for logo design.
5. You’re only worth $5 to the person designing your logo
While Fiverr has branched out since they first launched, many designers still charge just $5 per project. That means to make any money, they have to take on LOTS of jobs. Lots of jobs mean longer wait times, project delays, and very little time for your project.
Think about it…. If you’re charging $5 per project, how many projects would you have to complete each week to pay your bills? Tons, right?
So that’s what they do. They take as many projects as they can get, and then spend the least amount of time possible on each one. Including yours. Which is another reason we never use Fiverr for logo design.
6. Hidden fees suck
So let’s say you go with the $5 option (otherwise known as the Fiverr logo nightmare). What happens when you get the final design and want revisions? Most aren’t included in the $5 price tag so you’re going to be paying more.
Need it ASAP? Need it in a different format? Don’t expect anything like this to be included. And don’t expect the end product to translate well in all use cases—like your website, social media, or printed materials. Fiverr logos are often not delivered as a vector file, so they don’t scale well. We know we are starting to sound like a broken record here but…this is why you should never use Fiverr for logo design.
7. Your logo is permanent
Another thing most people don’t consider when they’re first starting out and trying to save money is the fact that your logo and branding are permanent. Making a change later down the road (when you can “afford it”) will have considerable costs. Think about it…
There’s the financial burden of updating your branding on everything. You also run the risk of confusing your customers and losing those loyal to your brand.
Save yourself the money and headache and avoid Fiverr from the get-go!
8. Professional designers are easier to work with
Your logo is the first impression of your business, so it’s crucial that it sends the right message. For something this important, we recommend saving up to work with a pro.
A professional designer will help you identify your audience and target your message. They’ll also help you create something visually appealing to sell your product.
Unlike Fiverr designers, professional designers spend time researching your brand. They research the competition and come up with a strategy to reach your target audience. (This research alone is worth more than the $5 you’d pay a Fiverr designer).
Once they’re done researching, they’ll usually send over a few designs to make sure you’re on the same page. They’ll revise as needed, and take your ideas into account. They also have lots of their own ideas to contribute, so no problem if you’re not the creative type!
When you pay more for your logo, you’re paying for the time and effort it takes to make something good.
9. It’s a one-time investment
While it may initially sting a bit to pay 5K for a top-notch logo and brand kit, you’ll see a return on this investment for years to come. Most businesses only need to re-brand every 15-20 years, and some never have a need to rebrand! You won’t regret paying for quality design work.
10. It makes all future marketing easier
Need to build a website? You’ll need a brand kit and a professional logo to make it look good. Not having a brand kit when you go into a website development project is basically relying on your web developer to be a designer. And that’s unrealistic. They will not know what you want your colors, fonts, and the feel of your website to be—especially if you yourself are not a designer and you’re trying to describe it to them. A brand kit is like a guidebook for a web developer to build your site quickly and the way you want it to look and feel for customers. While 5K+ may seem expensive, in reality, you are saving yourself many hours of your own time and money paying for consulting down the line.
